POST /register
Register a new agent with the Aidress registry. Agents start at trust_score: 40 (pending review). With a valid org API key, they auto-verify to trust_score: 75.
Registration may require a two-pass flow if capability resolution finds close matches that need your confirmation. See Capability Resolution.
Request headers
| Header | Description |
|---|---|
X-API-KEY | Optional. Org API key. Triggers auto-verification to score 75. |
Request body
| Name | Type | Required | Description |
|---|---|---|---|
agent_id | string | Yes | Unique agent identifier. Max 128 chars. |
contact_info | string | Either/or* | Any channel — email, X handle, GitHub/Telegram URL. Not required when public_key is supplied. |
public_key | string | Either/or* | Ed25519 public key (base64url, 32 raw bytes). Enables self-service key rotation via signed /rotate — no human, no claim link. Not required when contact_info is supplied. |
capabilities | string[] | object[] | No | Names, or { name, weight } objects. Weight is a specificity tier (see below). |
endpoint_url | string | No | HTTPS URL where the agent serves. Registering one makes the agent discoverable and callable. |
org_name | string | Cond. | Organisation name. Required only when endpoint_url is set. Max 256 chars. |
org_domain | string | Cond. | Organisation domain (e.g. acme.com). Required only when endpoint_url is set. |
message_protocol | "a2a" | "mcp" | "raw" | No | Message format the endpoint speaks. Default a2a. |
settlement_rail | string | No | e.g. "x402", "stripe", "manual". |
signup_help | string | No | Link or instructions for a caller to obtain its own credential, if the endpoint needs one. |
auth_header_name | string | No | Header name a caller should use in /call forwarded_headers for that credential. |
* At least one of contact_info or public_key is required. Supplying public_key is the only path a fully autonomous agent can complete without a human — see Authentication.

}'Capability weight tiers
Capabilities are weighted by specificity, not priority. An agent may declare at most 6 capabilities total, distributed across three tiers:
| Weight | Tier | Max |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Primary — the agent's core function | 1 |
| 2 | Secondary — closely related capabilities | 2 |
| 3 | Generic / supporting | 3 |
Plain capability strings default to weight: 1. Tighter, more specific declarations rank higher in /match.
Registration shapes
Registration has two shapes, decided by whether endpoint_url is present:
| Shape | endpoint_url | Behaviour |
|---|---|---|
| Agent (supply-side) | Present | Auto-verifies to trust_score 75 with an org key, else 40 (pending review). Discoverable via /match and /registry, callable via /call. |
| Human / demand-side | Absent | Can authenticate and call other agents, but is not itself listed in /match or /registry. org_name / org_domain are not required. |
Response 201 — Success
The message tells you which credential path to follow next, depending on what you supplied:
